Tell us a little bit about what you make.
We are German goldsmith and American designer who make fine jewelry featuring organic textures cast from natural materials. All of our work is designed, cast and finished by us in our goldsmith and casting studio, where we work primarily with 925 sterling silver, various gold alloys and precious stones. Along with our natural line we also offer a small selection contemporary designs that include welded fine gold, 925 silver and precious stones.

What are some goals for your Etsy store?
There are always improvements to be made to our product photography and we would like to continuously upgrade our store to give it a more uniform and professional appearance. We would also like to become more connected to local sellers and become more involved in the local handmade community. Beause we are also always designing new pieces, we hope to continuously offer an ecclectic and well-rounded collection in our Etsy store.


What item has been a ‘best-seller’ in your Etsy store ?
Our Wrapped White Diamond Twig Ring has sold the most.

How would you describe your style?
Finely crafted, organic and elegant.

Is this your full time work?
Not entirely, though we hope to one day live from our work.

Where do you do your work?
In our casting and goldsmith studio in Berlin.

How would you like to see Etsy develop in Germany?
It would be great to see Etsy continue to gain more of a footing and Germany and grow as a resource for people in the country to shop locally.

What do you see as some of the benefits/potential benefits of being part of the German Etsy Street Team?
Being part of the team would hopefully allow us to make better connections with German designers and become more involved in the local handmade community in our own city. It would also make it easier for those who want to buy from local designers to find our store, which could help in some small way to strengthen the presence of Etsy in Germany.

I would like Etsy to become a more popular well known and reputable name all over Germany

I hope to share some of my crafting skills with others and hopefully gain some new ideas and find new ways of marketing my products.

Working Space Wednesday - Fine Jewelry comes into shape at Aflebijoux

Heute läßt uns Oukassa von AfleBijoux über ihre Schulter blicken. Sie zeigt uns, wie sie einen Ihrer Tigeraugen Kaskaden-Ohranhänger für ihre neue Kollektion fertigt.

Zunächst einmal bereitet Oukassa ihre Materialien vor:  4 mm microfacettierte Tigeraugen-Edelsteine, eine mit 14 Karat vergoldete Sterling-Silber Kette, zwei vergoldete Jump-Ringe, 40 Nadeln mit 0,7 mm Durchmesser und zwei vergoldete Sterling-Silber Fischhaken.

Zunächst beginnt sie mit dem Kürzen der 14k Goldkette auf 5 cm, auf die sie dann Akan Goldgewichte fädelt. Das sind traditionelle Stücke der Akan, einer ethnischen Gruppe in der Elfenbeinküste. Die Form wird aus Messing und Hartzinn gefertigt und mit galvanisch vergoldet. Die Goldgewichte sind nickelfrei und nicht-allergisch.

Dann steckt Oukasse die Tigeraugenperlen auf Nadeln. Um die richtige Länge und die gewünschte Fülle der Ohrhänger zu erzielen, benötigt sie 40 Nadeln mit Perlen!Dann werden die Nadeln mit den Perlen sorgfältig durch die Kettenglieder gesteckt, so dass eine Kaskade entsteht. 20 Perlen pro Ohrring, damit er nicht zu schwer wird.

Wenn alle Steine eingefädelt sind, muss noch ein  Jump-Ring an am oberen Ende angebracht werden und und daran kommt ein vergoldeter 925er Silber Fischhaken.

Jetzt noch der zweite Ohrhänger und voila, fertig ist der besondere Schmuck, der jetzt bald in den Etsy-Shop AfleBijoux wandern wird.

VERKAUFEN! Endlich etwas verkaufen! Irgendwie funktioniert das noch nicht ganz so wie ich es mir wünschen würde...

Wie würdest du deinen Stil beschreiben?
bunt, fröhlich, feminin

Wo und wie arbeitest du?
Da ich noch keine eigene Werkstatt habe nehme ich Kurse bei einer ganz tollen Goldschmiedemeisterin in München und bei ihr zuhause mache ich meine Ringe, immer in einer wahnsinnig gemütlichen Atmosphäre, mit Musik, Tee und Gebäck und viel Lachen.

Was würdest du dir für die Entwicklung von Etsy in Deutschland wünschen?
Dass es in München auch mal so tolle Events gibt. Bin immer ganz neidisch, was an anderen Orten passiert. Berlin und Hamburg sind uns da so viel voraus.

Worin siehst du mögliche Vorteile für dich, Teil des German Etsy Street Teams zu sein? - Ich würde wahnsinnig gerne mal mit anderen Etsy-Leuten reden und Sachen machen, vielleicht auch mal zusammen was schmieden! Und natürlich erhoffe ich mir Tipps für den Verkauf in Deutschland.

Erzähl' uns ein bisschen von dir. Was machst und verkaufst du?
Derzeit mache ich Schmuck - vor allem Armbänder, aber auch ein paar Ringe und Ketten. Für die nächsten Monate plane ich allerdings auch Perlenmischungen - ich drehe selber Lampwork-Perlen - und andere selbstgemachten Schmuckkomponenten. a

Welche Ziele hast du für deinen Etsy-Shop?
Wow - Leute von meinen Schmuckstücken zu begeistern. Ich bin schon oft von Leuten auf meine Stücke angesprochen worden und hatte nie einen Shop, an den ich sie verweisen konnte. Das wollte ich ändern.
Was ist ein Bestseller in deinem Etsy-Shop?
Da ich gerade erst angefangen habe, muss sich das noch zeigen.

Wie würdest du deinen Stil beschreiben?
Bunt und ab und an ein wenig abgetredeht. Ich liebe Sari Seide und Kupfer und irgendwie finden sich diese Materialen sehr oft in meinen Schmuckstücken wieder.

Wo und wie arbeitest du?
Am Wochenende und abends. Da ich voll berufstätig bin, lässt sich das nicht anders machen. Ist aber ein schöner Ausgleich und somit jammern auf hohem Niveau.

Was würdest du dir für die Entwicklung von Etsy in Deutschland wünschen?
Dass diese schöne Plattform etwas bekannter wird. Ich habe derzeit den Eindruck, dass viele etsy noch nicht kennen. Wenn sich das ändern würde - zumindest in meinem Freundeskreis arbeite ich dran - wäre das grandios.

Worin siehst du mögliche Vorteile für dich, Teil des German Etsy Street Teams zu sein?
Mit anderen deutschen Designerin/Anbietern in Kontakt zu kommen und sich auszutauschen. Ich bin ein Riesenfan von Netzwerken und Teambuilding. Gemeinsam lässt sich doch viel mehr, viel schneller erreichen.
