Etsy Germany Street Team Sellers: Amy Larkin

Name: Amy Larkin
Location: Rondeshagen
Etsy Store: http://www.amylarkin.etsy.com
Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/amyyolarkin

What are some goals for your Etsy store?
Having just recently moved to Germany, I needed to find a new venue to sell my art as well as connect with the artist community here in Germany. Iâ•˙d like to sustain myself as a fulltime working artist and use Etsy to get my product recognized as well as create new relationships with fellow Esty artists.

What item has been a best seller in your Etsy store?
I am just getting started on Etsy, so I don't currently have a best seller. Currently I have only listed hand-sewn items such as baby bibs and quilted blankets. Ultimately I would like to soon post some of my other work, mixed media collages on paper and encaustic paintings.

How would you describe your style?
I am a multi-media artist and use many different materials and techniques. I am always wanting to find and work with new materials and to push myself to try new techniques, finding new relationships between different mediums. My work is colorful and often I play with the relationship of hard and soft or delicate and bold.

Is this your full time work?
Yes, this is my full time work, and I hope to be able to support myself with my art here in Germany.

Where do you do your work?
I work from my home, and have a space for my office as well as sewing machine. I also have a separate studio dedicated to my painting and mixed media collage.

How would you like to see Etsy develop in Germany?
I hope to see Etsy develop in Germany as much as it has in the States. Most people I have met here have never heard of Etsy, but with venues such as the Etsy Germany Street team I think it will gain some momentum and awareness.

What do you see as some of the benefits/potential benefits of being part of the German Etsy Street Team?
I think as an artist it is most important to have a community to relate to, share ideas, give feedback to each other and so on. This is especially important for me having just moving here and needing to rebuild a local community. German Etsy Street Team will be a great starting part for me, so thank you!

And the winner is...synchronixe! Here is what Eva had to say:

I found her elaborate comment the most helpful one, because she accounted for many important aspects:

  • Product pictures
  • What she liked especially about it

Final June Give-Away: Some more words

First of all: Thanks to all who participated in the give away.- It was so nice to read all your comments!
I was asked to write about the individual books in more detail, about possible solutions to the - admittedly tricky question in this last week -, and about eligible entries to this last drawing.
Unsurprisingly, it was hard to find good answers for the give-away question without following the link in the initial post to my own blog, where all the individual books could be looked at in more detail. The first two examples are the answers I would have given myself:
On the left hand side you see the mini book that was standing in the lower shelf to the very right. It has a red goatskin spine, and covers from Leipzig patterned paper, just like this Quarter Leather Binding from my shop.

Quarter Leather Binding with Leipzig Patterned Paper aus meinem Shop.

Here's another one, that I made to match: On the left hand you see the mini book that has the the same leather spine as its big brother. It has a covering paper (while the big Hashtag book) is covered with a book cloth - but I thought they would look similar enough.

Many mentioned that they recognized the similarity between the headbands of this mini book on the right, and the artjournal for tea lovers on the left. Some-one saw in the green pages of the little booklet second from the right in the lower shelf the green of the Smiley Oracle. One even knew that my instructions for Coptic headbands are bound like the mini book with the Chinese symbols. - All these are valid answers, of course.

I am surprised that many saw travel journals. Surprised because none of the tiny books come in a slipcase, and save the one with the headbands, none has a spine that looks like the travel journals. Several times people said they saw the red suede travel journal in there, one made a connection with the book with the red spine. I must admit that I have some difficulty seeing the similarity; but I don't want to be too hart, and I am willing to accept this as a valid answer. In the same spirit I am accepting the answers of those who saw the Warm Brown and Golden Journal, and the Crossed Structure Journals. Although I am not clear to which one of the small books they are referring to, I have some idea what they could have meant.

Then there were those that saw the purple swirl travel journal somewhere, and this gave me several moments of bewilderment - which book could have been meant by these comments?! Then someone mentioned the matchbox - of course! But I fear I have to draw a line somewhere, and this will it be: we didn't actually ask for the box.

This makes 12 eligible entries - Good luck to you all!

And if your name is not in the hat, or if you should not turn out as the lucky winner, I have good news for you: Despite what I said when the give away started, there is a book this size for sale in my shop now. While making the book with the poem for this give away, I totally fell in love with it, and made a very small edition of these tiny books, one of them is visible in the photo below.

Thank you all again for your interest and the many kind comments. Come back next month to the next Etsy Germany Street Team Monthly Giveaway!

Nocheinmal Dank an alle Teilnehmer!

This is the grand finale of our June Giveaway!

Again the donor is Hilke of Buechertiger. - And you can win a total of 8 miniature books today, together with the bookshelf and the box above in which it is contained. You won't need to make extra room for it. - Well, not too much, because the box is an ordinary match box.

The books are all hand made, exactly like their bigger counterparts. The matchbox is painted with acrylic paint and covered in a piece of Hilke's paste paper. She says about her Mini Book Library:

"I like to make these teeny tiny mini books in my free time, out of scraps that I have left over from bigger projects. They do take a lot of time - I need about 2 hours to finish one of the tiny books. Some of them even have some hand written content.
I don't usually sell these mini books, but like to give them away to friends.
A lot of love for the materials and dedication to details went into the making, and I hope someone will win these who can appreciate them!
I made most of them during last weeks, and tried to make minis of some of the books that were mentioned in the comment section during the first weeks of the give-away."
To see the individual books in detail, and see a description of them, and their content, visit Hilke's blog.

To enter this last round of June's edition of the give-away, visit Büchertigers Bücherladen and tell us which book from the shop you can recognize as represented in the miniature set. (Through the used materials or overall look.) Of course the answers are not unambiguous, and we would love to see inventive answers from you. Please also include your email so that we can contact you in case you win, and to avoid spam write it like this: germany(at)streetteam(dot)com

As before, the shipping costs are part of the prize. The closing date is 30 June, with a winner announced and contacted. The winner will be picked via random.org.
