Tell us a little bit about what you make. I turn bits of two dimensional yarn into three dimensional amigurumi (Japanese for plush toys). As it turns out crochet can be very mathematical and I find it very fascinating.

I also illustrate, and turn my illustrations into printables or digital clip art for scrapbooking on Missus D Paperie (http://www.etsy.com/shop/MissusDPaperie).

While living in Australia, I worked in an architect's office fiddling with the illustrator and turning flat things into three dimensional architectural models all day long, and I love reliving aspects of what I used to do in that office. Don't miss dealing with the local town council though!

What are some goals for your Etsy store? I have many goals on many levels! Well, I started Etsy in Germany because I didn't know if I wanted or could get a job (that I like) in Germany, and I didn't want to lose that creative part of me so I used Etsy to push and motivate me to improve my skills. Eventually, I would like my stores to provide supplemental income. Finally, I came to Germany without any friends or contacts, but Etsy has opened up social doors and support I never imagined to receive in Germany, so I hope I can also be a source of support to other sellers.

What item has been a best-seller in your Etsy store ? My amigurumi See Slugs have been selling well! They come in the form of toys and keyrings. They have the funniest expression! http://www.etsy.com/listing/45253205/amigurumi-alien-seeslug-keyring-pink


How would you describe your style?Quirky, humorous and out of the box. I like cute, but not saccharine cute, more like cute with a jagged teeth edge for my amigurumi. As for my illustrations, I am not so stylised because there are so many things I like, and they don't always come together easily, I like cuteness, humour, typography and patterns, and it's a challenge putting everything together elegantly, but I will try!

Is this your fulltime work? Yes.

Where do you do your work? In my tiny apartment! I recently finally got myself a worktable which has all my mess so I don't have to clear up the dining table for dinner anymore. But really I can't sit still in one place all the time, having two tables means I can switch and change for a break.
How would you like to see Etsy develop in Germany? I would like it to be a household name.

What do you see as some of the benefits/potential benefits of being part of the German Etsy Street Team? To fulfill the vision of Etsy being a household name, numbers would be our strength. Together, we can generate buzz, for ourselves and for one another. Personally, for me, it is a social space to meet, support and encourage each other. We can create a positive vibe which will attract other people who are curious about us, and begin to appreciate what we do.

Erzähl' uns ein bisschen von dir. Was machst und verkaufst du? Seit 5 Jahren erforsche ich das Gebiet des Textilschmucks. Angefangen hat es mit Filzschmuck, später kamen Gehäkeltes, Perlen und Stoffe dazu, die ich nach Lust und Laune miteinander kombiniere. Um mich bei der Vielzahl von Möglichkeiten zu fokusieren suche ich mir seit 2 Jahren Themen aus. Letztes Jahr war es der Schwarzwald mit seinen Trachten und dieses Jahr ist es die legendäre Loreley. Meinen Schmuck verkaufe ich vorwiegend auf Kunsthandwerkermärkten, privat und so hoffe ich, auch bei Etsy.
Welche Ziele hast du für deinen etsy-shop? Klar, mein business ankurbeln! und natürlich nette Leute kennenlernen, das ist genauso wichtig. Ich bin auch an Kooperationen mit anderen Kreativen interessiert.
Wie würdest du deinen Stil beschreiben? experimentierfreudig, handwerklich ausgefeilt, phantasievoll.

Wo und wie arbeitest du? Zu Hause an einem alten, großen Tisch, der meistens von Stoffen, Perlen und Garnen überquillt. Für das Photo von meiner Workspace habe ich etwas aufgeräumt ; )
Betreibst du deinen etsyshop Vollzeit oder hast du einen ‘Day Job’ ? Ich habe einen Teilzeitjob in einer Softwarefirma. Neben meiner Familie, ich habe eine 12 Jahre alte Tochter, habe ich glücklicherweise viel Zeit für das Kreative und bin mit dieser Mischung zur Zeit recht zufrieden.
Was würdest du dir für die Entwicklung von Etsy in Deutschland wünschen? Ich finde etsy wunderbar inspirierend und kann stundenlang in den shops stöbern. Ich würde mir wünschen, dass etsy in Deutschland bekannter wird. Ich habe das Gefühl, dass es nicht viele Leute hier kennen und vor allem handmade auch wertschätzen. Das handwerkliche Niveau und der künstlerische Inhalt vieler etsyshops ist außerordentlich hoch. Dahinter stehen Menschen, die sehr viel Zeit und Können investieren, das sollte meiner Meinung nach stärker gewürdigt werden.
Worin siehst du mögliche Vorteile für dich, Teil des German Etsy Street Teams zu sein? Gegenseitige Promotion/Werbung, das ist der große Vorteil eines Teams. Austausch und Zusammenarbeit, eventuell auch künstlerische Kooperationen sind etwas Schönes, das in einem Team entstehen kann. Und ganz konkret, wenn ich ein Geschenk suche oder mir selbst etwas schenken will, dann gehe ich nicht in ein großes Kaufhaus, real oder im Web, ich schaue zuerst einmal in die shops meiner Teammitglieder und staune, was es dort alles so gibt...

Etsy Opening Party in Berlin

Last week I took a whirlwind road trip all over Germany with my husband, our ultimate destination being a small town in the Pfalz to celebrate Easter with his family. On the way we visited Berlin where we attended the opening party of the new Etsy Lab in Germany.

The location, as one would expect, was in a funky, interesting part of Berlin (but then, what part of Berlin isn't funky and interesting) in Kreuzberg. The building was probably at some point in time a Fabrik of some sort, but it now seems to be almost completely taken over by Etsy.

There were large Etsy posters highlighting sellers, a room with a complete table full of little odds and ends surrounded by a bunch of people feverishly basteling away.

Our own Etsy Germany Street Team member Leocardia's products were on display. For those who were at the Munich meet-up you'll remember both her Brezn postcard and her fantastic Aligator (oder Krokodil?) cases:

The crowd was lively and there was lots of music, free drinks and even grilled bratwurst on offer. I didn't know too many people there except for a friend from Berlin that I had invited. However I was lucky to recognize Rebeccah from Schaufenster from her EGST seller post picture on this very blog, and we had a nice chat (until it got too cold to stay in the Hof).

Hopefully there will be more meet-ups and official Etsy events in the near future!

Schaufensterbummel: Raus in den Frühling!

Hallo, und herzlich willkommen in meiner neuen Rubrik "Schaufensterbummel" hier auf dem Etsy Germany Street Team Blog. In Zukunft werde ich etwa einmal im Monat einen thematischen Bummel durch die Shops unserer Teammitglieder machen, und euch dabei mitnehmen. - Alle Bilder sind übrigens anklickbar, probiert's nur mal aus!

Wie kann man zur Zeit an Einkaufen denken, ohne auch an Frühling zu denken? Das ist also mein Thema für diesen ersten Bummel.

Eva von zafran aus der Schweiz macht diese frühlingsgrünen Gürtel, mit dem ihr farblich dann schon ganz auf die Jahreszeit eingestellt seid.
Überhaupt spielt Grün natürlich bei meinem heutigen Schaufensterbummel eine Rolle. Wem der Gürtel nicht romantisch genug ist, findet bei Epp und Björn von koopdegrace aus Frankfurt diesen gerafften Schal, mit dem einem auch bei kühlerem Wetter noch warm bleibt:
Und natürlich ist gerade der Frühling eine gute Zeit, sich mit einer neuen Tasche eine Freude zu machen. Wie wäre es etwa mit dieser originellen grüne Stricktasche von Brit von fabiusmaximus aus Basel.
